Eeva Broberg, Ph.D.

www.ecdc.europa.eu

ECDC, the European CDC
I work at ECDC, the European CDC, www.ecdc.europa.eu as a virologist with a focus to human influenza viruses. I manage the Community Network of Reference Laboratories for Human Influenza in Europe (CNRL) consisting of 36 laboratories in 29 countries. At ECDC, we do not have laboratories but do more of networking with the national reference laboratories and with the WHO collaborative centers. ECDC has a role to support the EU Member States (MS) in doing their best to detect the infectious pathogens which have public health relevance early and to share the information timely with other MS.

My research interests are host-virus interactions, antiviral immune responses and biomedical interventions applicable to resource-limited settings. I have published widely in HIV-1 virology and immunology. At the HPP I am leading a multidisciplinary team of researchers working in the fields of HIV and TB pathogenesis and vaccine development.  I have a special interest in capacity building for biomedical research in Africa.
